Sarah Murphy-Dyson
An award-winning artist with 13 years of professional ballet behind her, Sarah Murphy-Dyson grew up in Victoria, BC, where she trained under Maureen Eastick. From there, she joined the Alberta Ballet and the Banff Festival Ballet, finally landing at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet in 1997. There, Sarah was promoted to First Soloist, and quickly became one of the company’s most popular leading dancers, known for such roles as Mina Murray in Mark Godden’s Dracula, 2nd Violin in Balanchine’s ConcertoBarocco, and Sugar Plum Fairy in Yordanova’s Nutcracker.
Sarah has entranced audiences at the Commonwealth Games in New Zealand, at The Edinburgh Festival in Scotland, and with ex-husband Johnny Wright in Victoria, BC, where they danced together as Romeo and Juliet.
In 2006 Sarah won a Gemini Award for Best Performance for her role as Papagena in The Tale of the Magic Flute. In May 2006, she retired to pursue acting full time, and most recently she is performing in the North American debut of Dirty Dancing, a cast she’s thrilled to be a part of.
MPG is honoured to have this dynamic and driven award-winning artist lend herself to the MPG name. “Having the opportunity to try new things, to be encouraged and take a chance, that’s what keeps me going”, says Sarah. “Clothing like this blends perfectly with my lifestyle. I never feel restrained.”
